While all lithium-ion cells lose temporary efficiency if stored below freezing for long periods, bringing the battery from room temperature (10°C to 20°C) into the machine allows internal cell self-warming during discharge, operating reliably in temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F).

A single-stage snow blower uses one rubber or steel paddle to scoop snow and throw it out the chute in a single mechanical motion. It is lightweight, clears right down to the pavement, and works best on smooth asphalt driveways with 8–10" of snow. A 2-stage snow blower separates clearing into two distinct mechanisms: heavy serrated steel augers crush the snow and push it to a separate high-speed impeller fan that blasts it out the chute. 2-stage models are self-propelled, have adjustable skid shoes for gravel driveways, and easily handle 18–20" of heavy packed snow.
